I was born in Iowa, but spent most of my life in Colorado
with stops in Virginia and Louisiana. While living in Charlottesville,
Virginia, I attended Lane High School, and graduated from Arapahoe
High School in Littleton, Colorado. My Bachelor of Science degree
from Colorado State University was in Biological Science and I attended
graduate school at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches,
Louisiana. I decided that job prospects in biology were limited, so
I switched my career path to dentistry. I graduated from Louisiana
State University School of Dentistry in 1979, and have
practiced in Monument, Colorado ever since.

My wife Jan and I were married in 1971. We have two children
who are both artists (see
an example). We choose Monument because of its small
town atmosphere, and proximity to a variety of outdoor activities.

Interests of mine include running, bicycling,
and sculpture. I also work in Guatemala with Faith
in Practice, providing dental care to the poor.

In addition, I volunteer at the KIND
clinic in Colorado Springs. Over the years I have volunteered
in many capacities in the community. In 2000, I received the Monument
Hill Sertomas Club Service to Mankind award, and was privileged to
be the Grand Marshall of the 4th of July Parade.

I attended LSU School of Dentistry from 1975 till my graduation
in 1979. I began private practice in Monument immediately. Office
space was limited so my first office was next to 7-11. In 1984, I
built our office building at 1860 Woodmoor Drive. In 2000, the practice
moved to our new location, which I built, at 18925 Base Camp Rd. I
have always strived to provide my patients with a state of the art
facility, and I feel our new location will do this for years to come.

I have been active in professional dentistry, and I am a
member of the Colorado
Springs Dental Society, Colorado
Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.
I served on the Colorado Springs Dental Society board for several
years and was President in 1999 – 2000. I have been a delegate
to the CDA General Assembly many times, as well as serving on several
committees.

In 2000, I proposed adding a Dental Hygiene School at UCCS.
A committee was formed by the Dean of the School of Nursing and I
presently serve on this committee. It looks promising that this degree
will become a reality in the near future.

I love practicing dentistry. It certainly beats having a
real job. Every hour someone new comes in to entertain the staff and
myself. Working in a small town environment has been a joy, and not
having to be a commuter has hopefully added years to my life.

Being a part of the community has been rewarding, not just
in the dental sense, but being able to participate in a wide range
of activities. Getting to know patients as friends, watching kids
grow up, and having an old fashioned 4th of July are just a few of
the elements that have made practicing here a great experience.

I enjoy outdoor activities, and Monument is an ideal place
for this. Until recently, I have been a competitive runner, but I
am still able to fill up my spare time; mountain biking, road biking,
snow boarding, cross country skiing etc. I also enjoy sculpture, music,
backpacking, and bird watching.
